FAQ – SSQ transition to Beneva

SSQ Insurance becomes Beneva. A new name that draws upon the expertise of La Capitale and SSQ Insurance, two major Canadian insurers that have protected millions of people for over 75 years. By coming together, La Capitale and SSQ Insurance, their plan members, their clients, their partners and their employees will reap the benefits of joining forces.

Rest assured, you don't need to take any action and your current policy hasn’t changed. You benefit from the same coverage and the same good people are still looking out for you.

General

I'm a client of SSQ Insurance; how does this change affect me?

There is no impact on your current products and services. You will continue to benefit from the same coverage and no action is required on your part. All SSQ Insurance contracts are honoured.

All documents related to your policy simply need to be read with the SSQ name replaced by Beneva.

Depending on the type of product you hold, the details of the change to Beneva may be different.

This doesn’t change anything for you. You continue to benefit from the same coverage and terms for your current contract and your claims are processed as usual.

Until December 31, 2022, Beneva Insurance Company was known as La Capitale General Insurance Inc.
Group insurance with SSQ, Life Insurance Company Inc. or La Capitale Civil Service Insurer Inc. On January 1, 2023, La Capitale Civil Service Insurer Inc. and SSQ, Life Insurance Company Inc. joined forces to become Beneva Inc., your new life and health insurer.

This doesn’t change anything for you. You continue to benefit from the same coverage and terms for your current contract and your claims are processed as usual.
SSQ segregated fund investments handled by a financial security advisor This won’t change your investments or business relationship with your financial security advisor. No action is required on your part.
Do I get in touch with you the same way as before?

Yes. You can contact us by phone or email. We’re always available to answer your questions and provide guidance.

Will SSQ Insurance be transitioning to Beneva?

Yes. The integration of SSQ Insurance began on January 1 with the transfer of your insurer. Beneva Insurance Company will replace SSQ Insurance Inc. as your insurer.

This means SSQ Insurance documents and online platforms will gradually take on Beneva’s look and feel in the coming months. We will keep you updated throughout our transition.

During my transition to the Beneva Client Centre, what happens to my SSQ Client Centre? Do I have to close my account or make any changes?

Keep using the SSQ Client Centre until your next renewal.

When it’s time to renew your insurance, you’ll have to create your online account on the Beneva Client Centre and download the Beneva app.

I have products with SSQ Insurance and La Capitale. Do multi-product discounts apply?

Except for group insurance, your multi-product discounts will be added when all your products are renewed with Beneva.

Is Beneva still a local company?

Of course. Beneva is the result of two local companies with mutualist roots coming together, whose purpose has always been to protect people. By uniting La Capitale and SSQ Insurance, Beneva becomes the largest mutual insurance company in Canada.

With Beneva, you get the expertise of people who have been dedicated to protecting people for over 75 years.

Home, car and recreational vehicle insurance

Are there any changes to my policy number?

Your home insurance policy number will change when you renew with Beneva.

Your car insurance policy number, however, will remain the same. This number appears on your contract or invoice.

Will I get service from the same people as before?

Yes. The same teams are there to ensure you get the same standout service.

Will Beneva be able to offer me the same contract terms when I renew?

Beneva has a new offer, one of the best on the market, to offer you at your next renewal.

Does my coverage remain the same despite the change of insurer?

Yes, your contract remains as is.

A new Beneva offer will be available to you when you renew your contract.

Do the existing claim numbers remain the same?

Yes. You don't need to take any action.

Does this change affect the way I submit new claims or track a pending claim?

Our Claims department continues to operate in the same exact manner. If you have a pending claim, it has the same claim number, and the people who guide you remain the same as well.

Where can I find the insurance certificate for my car?

Your insurance certificate comes with your contract. You can also access your certificate on the SSQ Client Centre and mobile app, or we can send you a copy by mail.

Group insurance

Will this change affect the way I submit claims?

No. You can continue to submit your claims the same way as before.

Will my insurance card be changed?

For the time being, you can continue to use the same insurance card.

I’m already a client, does anything change with my group insurance plan?

No. Your group insurance plan remains the same. You don't have to do anything.

Life and health insurance

Does this change have an impact on my insurance contract and coverage?

No. Beneva will honour all La Capitale and SSQ Insurance contracts.

You benefit from the same coverage and terms for your current contracts and products.

What happens if I hold one product with La Capitale and another with SSQ Insurance?

You don’t need to take any action. As of January 1, Beneva, which was created through the union of La Capitale and SSQ Insurance, will continue to offer your products.

You still benefit from the same coverage and conditions for your current contracts.

Will there be any changes to my payments?

Yes. On January 1, the service provider(s) listed as payee(s) on your bank's website or mobile app changed to Beneva.

I currently receive benefits; will I continue to receive them?

Yes, of course! You will continue to receive your benefits, as there is no change to your insurance contract.

You’ll simply notice that your benefits are now paid by Beneva.

Savings and investments

Are there any changes to my pre-authorized payments?

No. The terms and conditions of your investments remain the same. You’ll simply notice that the name on your account transactions has changed to Beneva.

Your pre-authorized debit agreement has been amended accordingly. In a nutshell, you don’t have to do anything!

I currently receive benefits; will I continue to receive them?

Yes. You will continue to receive your benefits, as there is no change to your insurance contract.

If I wish to make a change to my savings and investment contracts, what do I do?

You do everything the same way as before. The process for amending a contract remains the same, and your financial security advisor will continue to guide you. The same teams remain in place.

Billing and payments

 

Are there be any changes to billing?

Yes. All La Capitale and SSQ Insurance products and services are now invoiced by Beneva.

If you have home, car or recreational vehicle insurance:

Your invoice now shows premiums by policy or contract number.

  • If you own SSQ Insurance or Beneva products, your invoice will show the premiums by policy or contract number.
  • If you still own La Capitale products, they will be grouped on your invoice by product number until their renewal.

Therefore, depending on the product held, there could be section of your invoice that includes renewed products and products grouped by policy as well as a section of La Capitale products grouped according to product detail.

Furthermore, the only name appearing on an invoice is the policyowner’s. The names of all insured persons appear in the contract.

I received an invoice by mail for my home, car or recreational insurance. Is that normal?

Yes. All clients receive their invoice by mail. It was mailed separately from the contract. If you requested the paper version of your contract, it’s possible you receive the invoice before or after your contract.

Will there be any changes to the way I make my payments?

  • Yes. As of January 1, 2023, your financial institution will automatically change the payee to Beneva. If you have not already set up your online payments, you will have to select one of the payees from the following list depending on the product you hold.

What reference number should I use to make online payments for my home, auto or commercial insurance?

Use the 15-digit reference number that appears on the invoice you received by mail.

Will my payment date change for my home, car or recreational vehicle insurance?

No. The date of your pre-authorized debit remains the same every month. However, Beneva can only make debits on business days. No payment will be debited on weekends and holidays.

Will there be any changes for payments by cheque?

Yes. As of January 1, 2023, your cheques must be made payable to Beneva Inc.
