Training and Professional Development
Because one of SSQ's main goals, namely to offer the highest quality of service,
depends on retaining the most qualified personnel, the company has implemented
a number of training and professional development programs. Accordingly, it
provides employees with opportunities to upgrade their skills and acquire
new ones. Certain training programs, such as those focusing on computer technologies,
are offered to everyone, while other programs are specific to particular jobs.
When it comes to professional development outside the company, SSQ subsidizes
job-related college and university courses for employees. It also supports
the LOMA training program. English courses are available in the workplace,
and SSQ encourages employees to participate in the workshops offered by
different professional associations, notably those provided by the Canadian
Institute of Actuaries.
Every year, SSQ spends approximately 3 per cent of its total payroll on
staff training. The company spares no effort in maintaining its staff's
qualifications and fosters multi-skilled human resources.
